It's getting crowded out there as the offers to tempt the 70% of Australians who don't have pay-TV to buy something like Pay TV roll out.
Perhaps stung by the recent announcements from Fetch TV and TransACT, Telstra announced their T-Box package today.
It looks like this:
A $299 PVR with twin HD tuners (probably a re-badged Homecast box)
Seven BigPond TV channels (five are sport, no surprises there) and movie downloads.
According to the PR, there are
".. over 1300 movies available to download..movies start at $3.99.." on a seven day hire.
No additional bandwidth charges for Telstra customers. This is very attractive, given the movie download option.
Among the movies available for download, Telstra mentions Mao's Last Dancer, the first time any local content has been directly referenced in any of the offers, to my knowledge.
Hallelujah!
I'll find out what else they have.
