A group based out of University of Sydney is working to commercialise a technology that could push the speed of the NBN to 1 terabit per second. Correct me if I am wrong, the current best guess for the NBN is 100 mbps, one terabit is 1 million megabits, so that's 10,000 times faster? Interesting that the researchers use screen content as a benchmark. They predict that this is "fast enough to transmit hundreds of DVDs in a second". Broadband at speeds even approaching these renders the line between download/stream/real time meaningless.
